The Deck of N0NE

My Role | Founder, Creative Director, Brand Designer & Author

The Creative Challenge

Traditional tarot imagery and spiritual storytelling have historically centered Western and Eurocentric archetypes, leaving limited space for Black queer identities, cultural aesthetics, and alternative visions of the future.

The opportunity was to reimagine tarot as a culturally resonant experience—one that invited Black queer communities and other audiences to see themselves as powerful creators of their own stories and futures.

The Big Idea

What if tarot wasn't simply a tool for predicting the future, but a way to imagine and create it?

I conceived The Deck of N0NE as an original Afrofuturist tarot system that transforms familiar archetypes into a speculative universe rooted in Black aesthetics, mythology, and possibility.

The deck reimagines traditional tarot suits as Bandz (earth), Switchblades (air), Lighters (fire), and Vessels (water). Together, they create a distinct symbolic language connecting ancestral knowledge, contemporary culture, and speculative futures.

More than a card deck, The Deck of N0NE became the foundation for an interconnected creative universe spanning visual art, literature, digital storytelling, and participatory experiences.

How?

I originated the concept and directed the development of The Deck of N0NE from its initial creative vision into a multidisciplinary brand.

My responsibilities included:

  • Designing the brand's logo and color palette.

  • Establishing the visual identity, creative direction, and storytelling framework.

  • Developing the brand website and digital presence.

  • Creating the original tarot system, archetypes, and written interpretations.

  • Directing the integration of the deck into exhibitions, workshops, and audience experiences.

  • Writing and publishing The Book of N0NE, a companion publication extending the deck's philosophy and practical applications.

Outcomes & Impact

  • Original intellectual property: Created a distinct Afrofuturist tarot system with its own symbolism, archetypes, narrative framework, and visual identity.

  • Multi-platform brand expansion: Extended the concept across a physical tarot deck, website, publications, installations, workshops, and digital storytelling.

  • Published companion book: Released The Book of N0NE in paperback and Kindle formats, making the creative framework accessible beyond the original deck.

  • Institutional presentation: Brought the deck's creative universe into public art spaces through installations and participatory programming, including ARTS at King Street Station and an ARTE NOIR Storefronts residency.

  • Ongoing audience participation: Established The Living Archive as a platform for gathering community-generated stories and speculative futures.

The result: An independently developed creative brand that demonstrates how a singular artistic vision can become an expandable intellectual property ecosystem—connecting visual identity, storytelling, publishing, digital experiences, and community engagement.

Creative Execution

  • Visual Identity & Brand World

Developed a recognizable Afrofuturist identity that connects speculative imagery, contemporary Black aesthetics, and the symbolism of tarot. The brand's visual language carries across the deck, website, publications, and promotional materials.

  • Digital Experience

Built the brand's online presence as a destination for exploring its mythology, creative philosophy, and community participation.

  • Publishing & Product Development

Extended the original tarot concept into The Book of N0NE, available in paperback and Kindle editions. The book preserves the deck's interpretive framework and offers creative practices and spreads that can be used with other tarot decks.

  • Immersive & Participatory Experiences

Expanded the deck beyond a physical product through Afrofuturist installations and public-facing creative experiences, including XX: The Patternmaster at ARTS at King Street Station.

Developed The Living Archive, an ongoing participatory project inviting audiences to respond to speculative prompts and contribute their own visions of possible futures.
