Our Story
Split Six Productions began in 2012 with a simple belief: art can create space for us to imagine something different.
What started with Muck, a performance showcase for queer artists, grew into Kitchen Sessions, a multi-year collaboration bringing Black artists into museum spaces to create live work in conversation with rotating exhibitions at Seattle Art Museum and Bellevue Arts Museum.
Since then, our work has moved through museums, libraries, universities, galleries, public spaces, and community gatherings—taking shape as performances, exhibitions, installations, workshops, artist activations, and experiences that don't always fit neatly into a box.
The form has changed, but the question at the center of our work remains:
What becomes possible when we create space to imagine together?

Imani Sims is an alchemist.
A poet, installation artist, curator, educator, and creative producer who has spent more than two decades creating spaces where art becomes something people don’t simply witness—they enter.
Rooted in Black futurity and speculative imagination, their practice moves between poetry, performance, installation, storytelling, public programming, and participatory art. Their work has taken shape in museums, galleries, libraries, universities, and community spaces—from curating Black artists in conversation with museum collections to building immersive installations and creative experiences that invite audiences to write, make, question, play, and imagine together.
Imani founded Split Six Productions in 2012 as a place for those practices to meet. Today, they bring the instincts of an artist, the curiosity of a curator, and the experience of a producer to every Split Six collaboration—transforming big ideas into experiences that bring imagination to life.
